High School Roof Collapsed

Saturday night, the roof of the high school gym collapsed probably due to the weight of the snow. The women's basketball team saw some structure failure during its afternoon practice and left the gym. No one was in the gym when the complete collapse happened.

That's crazy. There was a gym roof collapse up here, too.

School officials are saying it was not the weight of the snow that caused the collapse.

It's a relief that the roof collapsed at night and no one was around that time. The roof might have been gradually deteriorating and finally gave in that night. The weight of the snow also added to it.

How sad that it had to be the students who noticed the failure in the structure. It bothers me how the school administration failed to notice this before. The heavy load of snow is likely not the only reason for its collapse; it could have also been caused by weak trusses or rafters. Parents should address this to the school’s board of directors to ensure the safety of the students in the school facilities.
