Mile 1


The Huckleberry Trail is a first-class hiking and biking trail that was started from an abandoned railway line. The name is because the train went so slow, riders could jump off, pick huckleberries, and still get back on the train.

Wong Park


This area below Wong Park is designed to provide a drainage basin. Zoning ordinances require it. It has rained every day for many days. It probably has more water in it than when the photo was taken. I will go and look tomorrow.

Today the weather is spring-like so the Huckleberry trail is crowded. The recreation fields are visible, but not accessible, from the Huckleberry.

Huckleberry, mile post 1


The Huckleberry is named for the train route whose roadbed it covers. The train was so slow that the cadets traveling to Virginia Tech could get off, pick huckleberries along the route, and still get back on the train.
