Post Office as community

My goodness:  this seemed like a different era.  Today Blacksburg thanked a retiring postal worker.  Her friends were invited to a reception.

Was there a time when the post office was a gathering place for the community?   It was here in Blacksburg.

Was lucky to again enjoy a delightful show at Virginia's state theatre at Abingdon, Barter Theatre.  This is one of the sculptures across from Barter Theatre.

'Twas exciting and cold.  Two state teams played for the Commonwealth Cup.  The temperatures were low, very low.  The game went to the last four seconds.

4-H Youth Development

4-H held Achievement Night to honor the work all the members and leaders have done.  Club presidents showed videos of the clubs' activities to an audience of community members.

Football game today.  This photo is from Lane stadium last week but there must have been a similar shot at Boston today.

Trunk show for the community

Optometrist Steve Jacobs offered the community a chance to be involved in organizations that help families by making available a "trunk" show of eye wear while learning about the organizations NRV Cares and the Valley Interfaith Child Care Center.

The Art Center, which looks like a white block in the center, is a dominant feature of the Main St. skyline.

The first photo was taked about 1 p.m.; the second about 5:30 p.m.  There were a lot of workers.

Habitat for Humanity of the New River Valley held a blitz build.  Two houses, one a typical stick-built and the other with structural insulated panels, will be compared for energy efficiency.

School warning light to be

New fixtures have been installed that will hold a sign warning drivers to slow down for a school zone.  The lights flash yellow just before and just after the school day, when students are walking in the area.  The new lights are larger and will be more sophisticated.

Chorale celebrates 25 years

Master Chorale has been providing music for 25 years.  This evening's concert included original pieces by the director as well as one of the singers and a Blue Grass Mass.
