Art and Science


Art and Science came together, really, at Blacksburg High School, when it was the venue for both the Blacksburg Community Band Spring Concert and the regional Robotics competition.  I got to hear music and watch robots play.  Different rooms, but just across the hall from each other.

Community Band Concert


Blacksburg Community Band played its 28th annual spring concert.  Jay Durner conducted and one piece was conducted by a guest, Richard Whitley Jr.

Community Band

The Blacksburg Community Band's spring concert was a Salute To Veterans.  The honor guard from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets presented the military flags for the Armed Forces Salute

Independence Day Celebration


Music is vital in Blacksburg's celebration of the Fourth of July.  I was close to the singers in the celebration chorus,  the musicians in the community band, and the musicians in The Meter's Running.

Community Band Concert


Wonderful concert by the Blacksburg Community Band.  It included Variations on a Hymn Tune in memory of the Titanic tragedy by John Raymond Howell, guest conductor and the premier of The King in Yellow, overture, by Steven E. Brown, associate conductor.
